Office of Public Health VR Project
The Office of Public Health (OPH) VR Project is dedicated to designing and developing Health Physics and Anatomy simulations for use on VR headsets and tablets, enhancing the training experience for students and faculty, especially in fields such as biology and nursing.
Central to this initiative is the Anatomage table, an advanced touch-screen device that displays life-sized, 3D digital cadavers, allowing users to explore the human body in detail, layer by layer—from muscles and bones to organs and the nervous system. This tool provides unprecedented clarity, helping medical students, healthcare professionals, and educators gain a deeper understanding of human anatomy.
The project collaborates across all four Southern University System campuses to develop VR-infused curricula, aiming to prepare K-12 students, university faculty, and undergraduates for healthcare roles by integrating VR-based training into educational programs. In addition to curriculum development, the project coordinates professional development workshops tailored for the medical community to improve VR proficiency. Through careful coordination, internal evaluations, and continuous data collection, OPH ensures that project objectives are met, timely reports are filed, and research outputs contribute to advancing VR applications in medical education.
